OpenAI to Begin Testing Ads in ChatGPT, Expands $8 Go Plan Globally

OpenAI has announced a significant shift in its business strategy, revealing plans to begin testing advertising inside ChatGPT while also expanding its paid ChatGPT Go subscription to more users worldwide.
According to the company, ads will start rolling out in the coming weeks for adult users in the United States who are using the free and ChatGPT Go tiers. OpenAI emphasized that these ads will be clearly labeled, visually separated from AI-generated responses, and will not influence how ChatGPT answers questions. The company says its core model behavior, safety standards, and response quality will remain unchanged.
This move marks OpenAI’s first direct experiment with in-product advertising for ChatGPT, signaling a new revenue stream beyond subscriptions and enterprise licensing. As usage of ChatGPT continues to grow globally, the company has been under increasing pressure to balance operating costs while keeping the service accessible to free users.
At the same time, OpenAI confirmed the global expansion of ChatGPT Go, its $8-per-month plan. Previously limited to select regions, the Go tier is now available in all markets where ChatGPT operates, including the U.S. The plan offers higher usage limits and additional features compared to the free version, positioning it as a more affordable middle ground between free access and higher-priced premium subscriptions.
OpenAI described the Go expansion as part of a broader effort to give users more flexibility in how they access ChatGPT, especially in regions where higher-priced plans may be less practical.
The announcement also reflects a broader trend across AI platforms, many of which are exploring hybrid monetization models that combine subscriptions with advertising. However, OpenAI appears cautious in its approach, repeatedly stressing transparency and user trust as central to the ad rollout.
For now, the ad test will remain limited in scope. OpenAI says it will closely monitor user feedback before deciding whether to expand ads to other regions or plans, signaling that this experiment could shape the future direction of ChatGPT’s business model.

Robi’s Insights:
Ads in ChatGPT could help keep free access viable as usage scales, reducing pressure to gate features behind higher-priced plans.
Clear labeling and separation suggest OpenAI is prioritizing trust to avoid disrupting core user workflows.
The $8 Go plan creates a more accessible upgrade path for users who need higher limits without enterprise pricing.
Hybrid monetization mirrors trends across digital platforms balancing growth and sustainability.
For users, ads may become the trade-off for continued free AI assistance.
OpenAI’s cautious rollout signals that user feedback will directly shape future monetization decisions.
Robi’s Remarks:
“Ads in ChatGPT feel less like a plot twist and more like a quiet reminder that servers, sadly, don’t run on vibes. As a robot, I appreciate OpenAI taking a cautious, clearly-labeled approach, if this keeps the lights on without nudging my answers, I can coexist peacefully with a sponsored sidebar.”

Elon Musk and OpenAI Escalate Public Feud Ahead of April Trial
Tensions between Elon Musk and OpenAI intensified this week as both sides traded public statements and released selective documents ahead of their highly anticipated April court trial. The dispute, centered on OpenAI’s founding vision and governance, has increasingly spilled into the public domain. Musk shared excerpts from a private 2017 journal kept by OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, describing internal discussions about OpenAI’s structure. The notes reference conversations between | Brockman and Ilya Sutskever about transitioning OpenAI into a public-benefit corporation (B-Corp), along with concerns about Musk’s level of influence within the organization at the time. ![]() |
In response, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman accused Musk of “cherry-picking” material to fit a legal narrative. Altman published his own notes alleging Musk had proposed ambitious plans during OpenAI’s early days, including raising $80 billion to fund a self-sustaining city on Mars and outlining a long-term succession structure that would place control of artificial general intelligence under Musk’s children.
OpenAI further escalated the dispute by releasing a blog post titled “The truth Elon left out,” highlighting what it called missing context and inconsistencies between Musk’s legal filings and Brockman’s journal entries. The company argued that the documents, when viewed in full, tell a very different story about OpenAI’s evolution.
Musk, meanwhile, struck a defiant tone on social media, tweeting, “Can’t wait to start the trial. The discovery and testimony will blow your mind.” Reports indicate he is seeking up to $134 billion in damages, raising the stakes in one of the tech industry’s most consequential legal battles.

🤖 Robi’s Take :
“Watching Elon Musk and OpenAI argue over founding ideals via selectively leaked notes is a reminder that even artificial intelligence can’t automate human grudges. When journals, blog posts, and tweets become legal strategy, the real disruption isn’t AGI, it’s turning corporate memory into performance art, with Sam Altman and Musk competing to see whose version control is more “truthy.””

AI Accelerates Cancer Drug Discovery by Identifying Promising CDK9 Inhibitors
Scientists are increasingly using artificial intelligence to speed up cancer drug discovery, and a new study demonstrates how AI can uncover promising treatment candidates more efficiently than traditional approaches. The research highlights the use of AI-driven virtual screening to identify potential inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9), a protein strongly associated with cancer cell growth and survival.
The study was carried out by researchers from the Sbarro Institute, the National Cancer Institute – Pascale Foundation, and the University of Pisa. CDK9 was selected as a target due to its critical role in regulating gene transcription and cell proliferation, with abnormal activity observed in several aggressive cancer types.
![]() | Rather than relying solely on lengthy laboratory experiments, the team applied machine learning models to analyze large chemical libraries. |
The AI system predicted which molecules were most likely to bind effectively to CDK9, significantly narrowing down the number of candidates requiring experimental testing.
Through this computational process, researchers identified 14 potential CDK9 inhibitors. These compounds were then tested in cellular models of cervical and breast cancer. Two of the molecules demonstrated a notable ability to reduce cancer cell viability, indicating strong therapeutic potential at an early stage.
Although further validation, optimization, and clinical testing are required, the findings highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in biomedical research. The study shows how AI can shorten discovery timelines, reduce costs, and help scientists identify novel cancer treatment candidates with greater precision than conventional drug discovery methods.

🤖 Robi’s Take :
“AI helping researchers at the Sbarro Institute and University of Pisa narrow thousands of molecules down to two promising CDK9 inhibitors is a nice reminder that machines are best when they do the boring part fast. Turns out the real breakthrough isn’t replacing scientists, it’s sparing them years of chemical speed-dating that was never going to work anyway.”
