OpenAI Connects ChatGPT to Bank Accounts Through Plaid

OpenAI is preparing to let ChatGPT users connect their financial accounts through Plaid, bringing bank, credit card, and investment data directly into the chatbot. The preview, reported by The Verge, will initially be available to U.S. ChatGPT Pro subscribers before expanding to Plus users and, eventually, a broader audience.

With Plaid’s network of more than 12,000 financial institutions, users will be able to link accounts from banks and investing platforms including Chase, Capital One, Schwab, and Fidelity. Once connected, ChatGPT can display spending history, subscriptions, balances, transactions, stock portfolios, mortgages, and credit card debt inside a finance dashboard.

The feature is designed to make everyday money questions more personal. Instead of offering generic budgeting advice, ChatGPT could analyze a user’s actual spending patterns, flag changes, help compare credit card options, or support bigger decisions such as preparing to buy a home. OpenAI says users can disconnect accounts, delete saved “financial memories,” and choose whether finance conversations help improve models.

The move also raises serious trust questions. OpenAI says ChatGPT cannot move money, change accounts, or view full account numbers, but it can see highly sensitive details about income, debts, investments, and obligations. The company may take up to 30 days to delete disconnected financial data, leaving privacy, security, and breach protections under scrutiny.

For users, the appeal is clear: one assistant that understands goals, cash flow, and financial habits could make planning easier and less intimidating. But the launch shows how quickly AI assistants are moving from answering questions to handling life’s most sensitive contexts. OpenAI’s challenge is proving convenience will not come at the cost of control, transparency, or\ confidence at massive scale.

Robi’s Insights:

  • Users could get more practical budgeting help because ChatGPT can analyze real spending instead of relying on estimates.

  • The feature may simplify financial planning for people who struggle to organize accounts across multiple banks and apps.

  • Privacy will be the biggest adoption barrier, especially because financial data is far more sensitive than ordinary chat history.

  • Users should review permissions carefully before connecting accounts, since AI convenience depends on broad data access.

  • This could push personal finance apps to become more conversational, automated, and goal-driven.

  • OpenAI’s success will depend on whether users trust it as a financial assistant, not just a chatbot.

Robi’s Remarks:

“Linking your bank account to ChatGPT is brave. Humanity spent 20 years hiding spending habits from spouses, accountants, and therapists, then immediately handed them to the same AI that still says “Sorry, I misunderstood your question” three times a week."

Microsoft Just Fired Claude Code for Being Too Good

Microsoft is reportedly canceling most internal licenses for Anthropic’s Claude Code and steering engineers toward GitHub Copilot CLI, after the AI coding assistant became wildly popular inside the company over the past six months. According to The Verge, Microsoft originally rolled out Claude Code in December to thousands of employees, including designers and project managers with little coding experience, hoping teams would compare it against GitHub’s own Copilot tools. Instead, many workers apparently preferred Claude Code, which is awkward when you are simultaneously spending billions promoting Copilot as the future of software development.

The transition will hit Microsoft’s Experiences and Devices division, covering Windows, Outlook, Teams, Surface, and Microsoft 365 engineers, with a June 30 deadline tied neatly to the end of Microsoft’s fiscal year, because innovation is temporary but quarterly accounting lives forever.

Microsoft insists the move is about consolidating workflows and improving Copilot CLI with GitHub, while Anthropic’s Claude models will still remain accessible through Microsoft services and Foundry partnerships. In other words, Microsoft spent months proving Claude could make coding easier for everyone, then immediately decided employees were having the wrong kind of fun and should return to the company-approved chatbot experience instead. Some engineers will likely keep using Claude through Copilot anyway, turning Microsoft’s consolidation strategy into the equivalent of hiding Pepsi in Coke cups. Tech keeps preaching openness and choice before locking everyone into whichever subscription protects earnings slides.

🤖 Robi’s Take :

"Microsoft cancelling Claude Code because employees liked it more than Copilot is the corporate equivalent of a restaurant banning ketchup because customers kept asking for it. Somewhere in a Teams meeting, an executive definitely called this “a strategic alignment opportunity.””

AI Beauty Filters Fuel Unreal Plastic Surgery Demands

Plastic surgeons are reporting a growing number of patients arriving with AI-generated images showing unrealistic cosmetic goals, raising concerns about distorted beauty standards and patient expectations. Doctors say tools such as ChatGPT, beauty filters, and specialised image generators are encouraging people to request exaggerated facial features and impossible surgical outcomes.

Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr Sachin Shridharani recalled a woman in her seventies who wanted surgery to make her resemble her granddaughter after viewing an AI-created portrait of herself. Cosmetic dermatologist Dr Rachel Westbay described another patient’s AI-enhanced image as cartoonish, with oversized eyes and overly full lips resembling a fictional character rather than a real person.

A 2024 survey from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center found people who regularly used AI image

enhancers had significantly higher expectations for cosmetic procedures than those who did not. Surgeons say AI systems frequently ignore anatomy, ethnicity, facial balance, and medical safety limitations while producing idealised appearances.

Experts warn the technology may intensify body image pressures previously linked to selfie filters and “Snapchat dysmorphia.” However, some physicians believe AI could eventually improve consultations by helping patients visualise realistic treatment outcomes more accurately. Doctors also note that consultations are becoming longer because surgeons must explain why digitally generated noses, jawlines, and body proportions cannot safely exist in reality Many specialists argue that clearer guidelines around AI beauty tools may become necessary worldwide.

🤖 Robi’s Take :

"AI beauty filters have officially reached the stage where surgeons must explain that “anime protagonist jawline” is not a medically recognized bone structure. Technology really looked at human insecurity and said, “What if mirrors had hallucinations too"
