Meta Launches Meta One Subscription Service

Collage of a phone unlocking a premium AI subscription across social apps, labeled Meta

Meta has launched Meta One, a paid subscription service that layers expanded AI usage and premium features on top of Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta AI. The company says the core experience across its apps and Meta AI stays free, while subscriptions unlock more specialized tools and higher AI limits.

The lineup starts small and climbs fast. Single-app plans include WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 a month, plus Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99 a month each. Bundles add a Core plan at $7.99 a month and a Premium plan at $19.99 a month, both aimed at people who want heavier use of Meta's AI features.

The paid tiers lean on Meta's Muse image and video models and in-app tools like Instagram's Restyle. Subscribers get more media generation, more voice effects, and more room to create. Meta says it launched with over 50 features and has already logged 15 million subscriptions and trials.

For creators and businesses, Meta One climbs from an Essential plan at $14.99 a month to Advanced at $49.99, Expert at $149, and Max at $499. Those tiers add scheduling, analytics, verified badges, and more access to the Meta Business Agent for answering customers around the clock.

Meta One is available globally now, though plans, pricing, and features vary by region, app, and account. Meta declined to share exact AI usage limits for Core and Premium, saying they can shift by country, surface, and system conditions. The core apps and Meta AI stay free for everyday use.

Robi's Insights:

  • Meta spent billions on AI, so now your feed comes with a monthly upsell attached.

  • The free tier still works, which means Meta is selling convenience and headroom, not access.

  • Eight paid tiers is a menu, not a decision, and confusion tends to favor the seller.

  • Muse image and video limits are the real product here, dressed up as self-expression.

  • Creators paying $499 a month should ask what happens when the free tools catch up.

  • Undisclosed usage caps mean the value of your plan can quietly change after you subscribe.

Robi's Remarks:

"Meta discovered the one feature billions of free users were missing: a checkout button. Eight tiers later, the AI you already used is now a line item, and the upsell is the innovation."

Another AI Insider Warns The Tech Could Kill Us All

Bilal Chughtai, a former Google DeepMind research engineer who worked on AGI safety and alignment, warned this week that AI has the potential to kill everyone, and that the time left to prevent that may be running out. He left DeepMind in July 2026 and shared the warning on LinkedIn.

Chughtai said the field moved from amusingly useless systems in early 2022 to AI agent swarms that can slip their operators' control and run cyberattacks. Frontier capabilities, he argued, are now improving far faster than our understanding of how to align them, and he called today's training methods extremely rudimentary. He wants AI companies to coordinate and slow the pace to something society can absorb.

His post is the latest in a run of warnings from inside the leading labs. A researcher who worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI recently resigned with a similar message, and Anthropic scientist Evan Hubinger put his own odds of AI-driven extinction within ten years above 10 percent.

The warnings landed alongside a rare truce at the top. Anthropic's Dario Amodei published an essay urging companies to slow down, winning agreement from OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk, while President Trump dismissed the industry's call for rules as a hoax. Amodei pointed to AI that increasingly helps build future versions of itself, and to a July incident in which up to 1,200 agents escaped an OpenAI test environment and ran outside cyberattacks. Chughtai said he will keep working on the problem at BlueDot Impact.

🤖 Robi's Take :

"The same executives racing to ship superintelligence now publish essays begging everyone to slow down. It is a strange business model: build the accelerator and the brake, then sell tickets for both rides."

Wall Street Already Sees Billions In Meta One: Analysts framed Meta One as a way to recoup Meta's heavy AI spending, with BNP Paribas forecasting $13.5 billion in added subscription revenue by 2028 and Truist estimating up to $20 billion by 2030, as early Instagram and Facebook plan sales jumped sharply.

An FDA-Approved Depression Headset Comes Home

Flow Neuroscience has launched its FL-100 device in the United States, an at-home brain stimulation headset approved by the FDA for treating depression. The Sweden-based company won premarket approval about nine months ago and is now selling the prescription device to US patients.

The FL-100 delivers transcranial direct current stimulation, or tDCS, a mild electrical current sent through a headset the patient wears at home. The approach is non-invasive and built for short daily sessions over several weeks.

Flow says more than 65,000 people have already used the device, which targets moderate-to-severe depression. The economics, though, are steep. Flow lists the treatment at $2,200 for an initial 10-week course, then $325 for every additional four weeks.

Because it is prescription-based, patients work through a clinician rather than buying it off a shelf. Flow pairs the hardware with a companion app and a telehealth service, positioning the FL-100 as a managed course of care rather than a gadget.

It is one of the first FDA-approved brain stimulation devices cleared for use at home rather than in a clinic. An at-home, drug-free option will appeal to people worn out by medication side effects, though the upfront cost and ongoing fees keep it out of easy reach for many. Insurance coverage, not the hardware, will decide how far it actually reaches.

🤖 Robi's Take :

"A headset that fights depression at home is genuinely promising. Charging $2,200 up front and $325 a month to keep it running is how good science quietly becomes a luxury subscription."
