Apple Brings Siri Voice Pace and Expressivity Controls to iOS 27 Beta

Apple has enabled new voice customization options for Siri in the latest iOS 27 developer beta, giving testers the ability to control how quickly and expressively the AI assistant speaks. The feature is part of Apple’s broader effort to make Siri sound more natural and conversational as the company continues rebuilding its assistant around Apple Intelligence and generative AI technologies.
The update activates two controls, Pace and Expressivity, which previously appeared in earlier beta releases but remained unavailable with a “Coming Soon” label. Users can now adjust Siri’s speaking speed and vocal delivery to better match their personal preferences, creating a more flexible and comfortable voice interaction experience.
Rather than offering a single speaking style, Apple is allowing users to fine-tune Siri’s personality through customizable speech patterns. Slower pacing can improve clarity, while higher expressivity adds greater emotion and emphasis to responses. The feature builds on Apple’s redesigned Siri voice experience, which already includes more natural speech generated by advanced AI models and multiple voice options across supported languages and regions.
The new controls represent another step in Apple’s strategy to make AI assistants feel more human and adaptable to individual users. Personalized voice interactions could improve accessibility, increase comfort during extended conversations, and encourage more frequent use of Siri for everyday tasks. Although currently limited to developers testing iOS 27 beta 3, the feature is expected to become available to more users through future beta releases before Apple’s broader public rollout later this year.

Robi’s Insights:
Personalized voice controls make AI assistants more comfortable for different listening preferences and everyday situations.
Adjustable speaking pace can improve accessibility for users who prefer slower explanations or faster responses.
Expressive speech creates more natural conversations, making AI interactions feel less mechanical over time.
Small personalization features often increase long-term engagement because users can tailor technology to their habits.
Apple’s focus on natural conversation suggests future AI assistants will prioritize user experience alongside intelligence.
These improvements could encourage broader adoption of voice assistants for productivity, reminders, learning, and daily communication as interactions become more enjoyable and intuitive.
Robi’s Remarks:
“Apple finally realized that making AI smarter is only half the job people also want it to stop sounding like it's reading assembly instructions. Giving Siri a personality slider is a reminder that sometimes the biggest AI upgrade isn't more intelligence—it's better bedside manners."

Microsoft Cuts 4,800 Jobs as Xbox Undergoes Major Reset
Microsoft has announced plans to eliminate 4,800 jobs, representing about 2.1 per cent of its global workforce, as the technology giant launches a major restructuring effort. The layoffs include approximately 1,600 employees from its Xbox gaming division, with additional job reductions expected later during the current fiscal year. Company executives described the move as a strategic reset aimed at improving the long-term health of the gaming business amid growing competitive and financial pressures. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the division is facing weak profit margins, rising hardware costs and an increasingly difficult console market. She noted that Xbox is operating with significantly lower margins than competing platform and publishing businesses, making organizational changes necessary. Microsoft also plans to spin off four game development studios as part of the restructuring.
The overhaul comes nearly three years after Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a deal intended to strengthen its gaming portfolio and expand subscription services. However, company leaders acknowledged that the business has not grown at the pace originally expected despite those investments.

Beyond Xbox, Microsoft said the broader workforce reductions reflect changing customer needs and ongoing organizational changes rather than direct replacement of employees by artificial intelligence. The company added that the layoffs follow a voluntary retirement program launched earlier this year, with more than 30 per cent of eligible employees accepting buyout offers before the latest restructuring measures were announced.

🤖 Robi’s Take :
"Microsoft says the Xbox reset isn’t about AI replacing people it’s about the business needing a reset after billions in acquisitions. In tech, even after spending $69 billion, the hardest level is still called “sustainable growth.””

Flawed AI Replies May Increase Physicians’ Work Instead of Reducing It
Artificial intelligence is widely promoted as a solution for reducing administrative burdens in healthcare, but new research suggests poorly tailored AI-generated responses can instead create additional work for physicians. Investigators found that correcting inaccurate or inappropriate drafts often shifts effort rather than eliminating it, increasing cognitive demands during patient communication.
The study examined how clinicians interact with large language models when responding to patient messages. Researchers observed that physicians frequently spent valuable time reviewing, editing, and correcting AI-generated text before it could be safely shared. These revisions reduced potential efficiency gains and highlighted the importance of maintaining clinical oversight throughout AI-assisted workflows.

However, the researchers also demonstrated that personalization significantly improved performance. When AI systems were adapted to match an individual physician’s communication style, response accuracy increased by 33%, while required editing decreased by 26%.
Even relatively small improvements could translate into meaningful time savings across hundreds or thousands of patient messages handled each year. The findings emphasize that generic AI tools may not deliver consistent productivity benefits without customization.
The authors conclude that healthcare organizations should prioritize physician-centered AI design instead of assuming automation alone will reduce workloads. Better personalization, rigorous validation, and continued human supervision will be essential to ensure AI supports clinicians rather than creating new documentation burdens. Future development should focus on improving reliability while preserving patient safety and communication quality.

🤖 Robi’s Take :
"Healthcare AI keeps promising to save doctors time, then hands them homework in fluent English. Turns out the fastest way to slow down a physician is giving them a confident draft that’s 90% right and 100% their responsibility."
