OpenAI Backs Sam Altman’s Brain-Computer Interface Startup and Launches ChatGPT Translate

OpenAI has taken two notable steps that signal both a long-term bet on human–AI integration and a more immediate push toward everyday global usability. The AI company has invested in Merge Labs, a new brain-computer interface (BCI) startup co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, while also rolling out a new standalone product called ChatGPT Translate.

A new survey of 1,200 primary and secondary school teachers and students reveals just how deeply artificial intelligence has become embedded in classrooms. According to the findings, 95% of students and 91% of teachers now use AI tools as part of learning and teaching, highlighting how quickly these technologies have moved from novelty to near-necessity in education. However, the results also point to growing challenges.
